This Web-based course will use hypothetical scenarios, interactive learning activities and online discussion to explore the ethical issues that face the administrative law judge. After this course, participants will be able to rule with confidence, knowing their decisions are ethically appropriate; apply the Model Code of Judicial Conduct for federal administrative law judges; and explain the differences between their individual state codes and the Model Code. Participants will also learn about different cultures and their impact on the administrative hearing; and reduce bias and prejudice to maintain the integrity of the administrative process. Participants will have weekly assignments, online group discussions and six live Web conferences with the faculty. It is anticipated that judges will spend between five and six hours on lessons per week. On Friday of each week of the course, the faculty will deliver a live one-hour Web conference.

Qualifies as an elective for the Certificate in Judicial Development, Administrative Law Adjudication Skills and Dispute Resolution Skills programs.
