Participants will be able to describe the fundamentals of substance abuse, mental health, and co-occurring disorders; perform or improve motivational interviewing techniques; employ incentives and sanctions to a mental health, drug, or co-occurring court; explain legal issues and efficacy of 12-step programs; and implement systems or ideas to improve mental health, drug, or co-occurring disorders courts.

Qualifies as an elective in the Certificate in Judicial Development, General Jurisdiction Trial Skills, Special Court Trial Skills and Tribal Judicial Skills programs.
