Evidence Challenges for Administrative Law Judges: A Web-Based Course

Administrative law adjudicators will be provided with the skills needed to make evidentiary rulings with confidence. After this online course, participants will be able to rule accurately on issues of hearsay, foundation, privileges and burden of proof, and make correct determinations concerning both expert witness and lay witness observations. Additionally, this course will also address the residuum rule, official/judicial notice, and the use of documentary and substantial evidence. This course relies heavily upon real-world examples and interactive tasks. Participants will have weekly assignments, online group discussions and six live Web conferences with the faculty. It is anticipated that judges will spend between five and six hours on lessons per week. On Friday of each week of the course, the faculty will deliver a one-hour live Web conference.

Qualifies as an elective in the Certificate in Judicial Development, Administrative Law Adjudication Skills program.
