This intensive two-week course offers specialized training for both state
and federal administrative law adjudicators who wish to attend a foundation
course in administrative law adjudication. After attending this course,
participants will be able to utilize sound pre-hearing practice and case
management techniques; write decisions that will withstand judicial review;
effectively address the issue of caseload management; incorporate alternative
dispute resolution techniques where appropriate; evaluate witness and
expert credibility; and appropriately apply the rules of evidence and
procedure.
Qualifies as a requirement in the Certificate in Judicial Development,
Administrative Law Adjudication Skills, Dispute Resolution Skills and
Tribal Judicial Skills programs.

This course is designed to improve the skills of administrative law judges
who handle workers’ compensation cases. After attending this course,
participants will be able to integrate due process and other constitutional
requirements affecting workers’ compensation adjudication cases;
evaluate the validity of employer defenses in their proceedings; re-evaluate
pre-hearing and post-hearing procedures in their courts; effectively evaluate
the admissibility and credibility of expert testimony; review recent developments
in occupational medicine; accurately assess causation and the impact of
pre-
existing conditions; and fortify their decisions to survive judicial review.
