Co-sponsored by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ), this course will be held in Reno, Nev., at NCJFCJ’s facility.

This program is for any judge who hears family law cases involving the dissolution of marriages, child custody and visitation, and child support. The faculty provides practice-based tools to assist judges in the management of the most complex issues in domestic relations. After attending this course, participants will be able to effectively interview children; apply the latest social science research to craft developmentally appropriate parenting plans; utilize problem-solving court principles to provide litigation alternatives to families in crisis; effectively manage high-conflict cases; ensure safety in cases where domestic violence is indicated; confidently evaluate business financial records; and assess business valuations.

Qualifies for 2 credits toward the Judicial Studies degree and as an elective in the Certificate in Judicial Development, Dispute Resolution Skills, General Jurisdiction Trial Skills, Special Court Trial Skills and Tribal Judicial Skills programs.

Court Management

Court Management for Judges and Court Administrators
Offered biennially in
odd-numbered years.

This course offers a hands-on team approach to judges and court administrators for managing today’s crowded court calendars. Judges and administrators are encouraged to attend as teams. After attending this course, participants will be able to identify the characteristics of effective teams; manage conflict between team members; determine how data collection methods support court decisions; utilize basic budgeting philosophies and methodologies; develop skills in managing human resources; outline methods for implementing an effective case management system; and improve public and media relations.

Qualifies as an elective in the Certificate in Judicial Development, Dispute Resolution Skills, General
Jurisdiction Trial Skills and Special Court Trial Skills programs.
