This course familiarizes participants with the factors that affect the
decision-making process and assists them in the analysis of their own
thinking and style. After attending this course, participants will be
able to recognize their own decision-making styles; identify issues of
fairness and equity; examine the use of judicial discretion; explore issues
of credibility; analyze conflicts of interest and ethical dilemmas; recognize
the factors that can cause an appellate court to overturn a decision;
and write and communicate decisions more clearly.
Qualifies for 2 credits toward the Judicial Studies degree and as
an elective in the Certificate in Judicial Development, Administrative
Law Adjudication Skills, Dispute Resolution Skills, General Jurisdiction
Trial Skills, Special Court Trial Skills and Tribal Judicial Skills programs.
