Participants will receive information on the newest methods of dispute resolution including judicial settlement methods, mediation for family and civil cases, summary jury trials and other innovative devices used to solve disputes more rapidly. Participants will also practice skill-building exercises. After attending this course, participants will be able to define and use various dispute resolution methods; evaluate and decide which dispute resolution device is appropriate for each individual case; and recognize those cases that are not appropriate for alternative dispute resolution.
Qualifies for 2 credits toward the Judicial Studies degree and as a requirement for the Certificate in Judicial Development, Dispute Resolution Skills program and as an elective in the Administrative Law Adjudication Skills, General Jurisdiction Trial Skills, Special Court Trial Skills and Tribal Judicial Skills programs.
