After this online course, participants will be able to distinguish between proper and improper personal conduct in courtroom and community activities as well as proper and improper communication between litigants, lawyers, judges and others; rule with confidence, knowing their decisions are ethically appropriate; recognize and discuss the importance of learning about different cultures and their impact on courtrooms; describe the impact of bias and stereotyping on court proceedings; and reduce bias and prejudice to maintain the integrity of the court process. Participants will have weekly assignments, online group discussions and six live Web conferences with the faculty. It is anticipated that judges will spend between three and four hours on lessons per week. On Thursday of each
week of the course, the faculty will deliver a live hour-long Web conference.
