The evolving role of the judiciary requires constant attention to ethical standards for judges. After attending this course, participants will be able to identify common provisions under the recently released version of the ABA’s Model Code of Judicial Conduct that are most subject to violation. This course assists judges in assessing how judicial ethics can influence public perception of the courts; how to formulate ethical responses to everyday situations in and out of court; make informed decisions when confronting personal activities which raise ethical issues; conform personal conduct to state codes; prevent ethical violations in the area of ex parte communications and analyze permissible conduct with regard to political, business and financial activities. Online materials will be available for judges to complete approximately six weeks prior to the course start date. At that time, participants will receive an email with the website location and their login information. Participants should plan to set aside approximately two to four hours of time to review and complete the materials prior to the course.
Qualifies as an elective for the Certificate in Judicial Development, Administrative Law Adjudication Skills, Dispute Resolution Skills, General Jurisdiction Trial Skills, Special Court Trial Skills and Tribal Judicial Skills programs.
