Offered biennially in odd-numbered years.
This course is designed for judges with law degrees who would like a refresher course in evidence and for judges without law degrees who wish to master the rules of evidence. After attending this course, participants will be able to make prompt and correct rulings in the areas of relevancy; competency and privileges; burdens of proof; judicial notice and presumptions; impeachment and rehabilitation; constitutional limitations on the admissibility of evidence; hearsay and hearsay exceptions; confrontation; documentary and demonstrative evidence; child witnesses; experimental and scientific evidence; and expert and lay witness testimony.
Qualifies as a requirement in the Certificate in Judicial Development, Special Court Trial Skills program and as an elective in the Administrative Law Adjudication Skills and Tribal Judicial Skills programs.
