After this course, participants will be able to develop plans for sentencing various motor vehicle law offenders, including younger drivers, older drivers, repeat offenders, status offenses, substances abusers, and illegal immigrants without valid licenses; adopt valid conditions of probation and/or sentencing alternatives; recognize appointment of counsel issues at critical stages; identify and utilize assessment, treatment, and counseling resources to assist with imposing appropriate sentences; identify new technology and practices used in sentencing; and creatively use judicial discretion to fashion and implement effective sentences.

Qualifies as a requirement in the Certificate in Judicial Development, Special Court Trial Skills program and as an elective in the Administrative Law Adjudication Skills, General Jurisdiction Trial Skills and the Tribal Judicial Skills programs.
