This program is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) awarded to the National Center for Justice and the Rule of Law (NCJRL). The grant covers tuition, materials, and conference meals for 38 general jurisdiction (felony trial court) judges and 10 limited jurisdiction judges. General jurisdiction judges will also receive paid lodging + up to $500 toward air travel.
There is an increasing use of digital evidence in criminal cases, particularly in technology-assisted crimes against children. This program offers an overview of offenses and defenses with an introduction to forensics and search and seizure. After attending this program, the participants will be able to outline many new crimes against children involving the use of technology such as cyber bullying, and cyber stalking. Participants will also be able to describe how technology is used to commit other traditional crimes against children including the use of the Internet to find victims and groom them and define how technology is used to distribute child pornography.
