In traffic court, one size does not fit all. Research has shown are roads are safer when traffic sentences are drafted with the “type” of defendant in mind such as the elderly driver, new (youth) drivers. This course is designed to provide an overview of current traffic sentencing issues to the judiciary. After this course, participants will be able to understand the Immigration consequences of certain traffic pleas; craft effective sentences for youthful offenders; recognize warning signs in elderly drivers; and explain the basic provisions relating to commercial motor vehicle laws and regulations.
Qualifies as an elective for the Certificate in Judicial
Development, Administrative Law Adjudication Skills, General Jurisdiction Trial Skills, Special Court Trial Skills
and Tribal Judicial Skills programs.
