Like all judges, tribal judges confront domestic violence cases on an
all-too-frequent basis. To handle these difficult cases appropriately,
tribal judges must master difficult legal, procedural, and psychological
issues. After attending this four-day course, tribal judges will be able
to develop follow-up systems in civil actions, make criminal defendants
accountable to the court, and create effective responses to reported violations
of court orders. They will also be able to rule more confidently on evidentiary
issues, orders of protection and enforcement, bonds, pretrial releases,
judgments and sentences.
Qualifies as an elective for the Certificate in Judicial Development,
Tribal Judicial Skills program.
