The cornerstones of American government were laid long before the founders drafted the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. This course focuses on such fundamental rights as habeas corpus, trial by jury, and equal protection. After attending this course, participants will be able to trace the continuum of legal rights from medieval England to contemporary times; discuss landmark documents, statutes, and cases on fundamental legal rights; and relate those landmark documents, statutes, and cases to today’s administration of justice.

Qualifies for 2 credits toward the Judicial Studies degree and as an elective in the Certificate in Judicial Development, Administrative Law Adjudication Skills, Dispute Resolution Skills, General Jurisdiction Trial Skills, Special Court Trial Skills, and Tribal Judicial Skills programs.

The course will be held at the Gaylord National Hotel (non-smoking facility), (301) 965-4000, with a rate of $229 plus 16 percent tax per night. There is a $15 resort fee.
