A practical course for new judges and those judges who want a refresher,
this course gives participants the skills to oversee their courtrooms
more effectively. After taking this course, judges will be able to recognize
their role in making and protecting the record; apply practical trial
management techniques to the pretrial process; better manage the effects
of judicial stress; participate in media interviews more effectively;
recognize how personal bias may impact judicial decisions; avoid bias
and the appearance of bias; manage self-represented litigants and difficult
attorneys efficiently; anticipate and address challenging issues involving
jurors; conduct trials using innovative jury management techniques; and
communicate more effectively with persons in their courtrooms.
*This course has been submitted for inclusion in the Judicial
Studies degree program.
Qualifies as an elective in the Certificate in Judicial Development,
General Jurisdiction Trial Skills, Special Court Trial Skills and Tribal
Judicial Skills programs.
