A
Tremendous Thank You to the NJC Donors for a Record Year
2/6/2008
The National Judicial
College extends a warm thank you to the generous alumni, faculty and community
friends who donated more than $1.2 million in 2007 - a record year in
fundraising for the NJC. This total includes more than $404,000 in unrestricted
dollars, along with a $366,000 bequest from an anonymous couple for the
NJC endowment.
“We are grateful for the support of donors to the NJC,” said
Hon. William F. Dressel, president of the NJC. “As a non-profit
organization, the NJC relies on support from our donors to allow us to
continue enhancing our curriculum and provide new and innovative programs
for our nation’s judiciary. We are delighted that we were able to
reach a new record in 2007.”
Donors to the NJC allow
the College to enhance its existing programs and courses and provide a
state-of-the-art classroom learning experience. The NJC is grateful to
The E.L. Cord Foundation
and The Robert
Z. Hawkins Foundation for donating $100,000 and $25,000 respectively,
toward a major technology upgrade of the NJC’s classrooms.
Donors such as the William
Randolph Hearst Foundation, which donated $75,000 toward the NJC scholarship
fund, allow the College to provide financial assistance to hundreds of
judges each year who may not otherwise be able to attend the NJC's courses.
A recent scholarship recipient, Judge Jamese Rhoades from Salem, Oregon
remarked, “Without a scholarship, I would not have been able to
attend the Handling Capital Cases course. My participation in this course
will result in a more efficient and effective management of death penalty
cases including fair and error-free trials in this most important and
expensive criminal litigation.”
We are pleased that several donors are providing an extraordinary level
of support to the NJC by contributing to the Pillars
of Justice Fund – A Fund for the Future of Justice. This fund
was established for corporations, law firms and others to make a difference
by ensuring positive change in our nation’s courts. Donors such
as Chevron Corporation,
Hunton & Williams,
and PricewaterhouseCoopers
LLP, along with others, are making a lasting impact on the future
of judicial education.
The NJC attempts to meet the various needs of our donors by providing
a variety of donating opportunities. We provide a direct debit option,
monthly giving program, and multi-year programs, including the National
Associates of Justice and the Circle of Justice. You may choose to
support any of these opportunities online through our secure website.
