Joint Board of Visitors and Board of Trustees Meeting
7/11/2008
On June 5, the NJC’s Board of Trustees and Board of Visitors members had the opportunity to interact when they met in Reno to participate in a Case Management Session and their respective meetings. Professor Ernest Friesen, Jr., founding dean of the NJC and former dean and professor of the Whittier College School of Law and California Western School of Law, and Hon. William F. Dressel, NJC president, led the session that sought insight and provided information about case management. The session was a follow-up to the NJC’s January Caseflow Management Summit and provided members with the opportunity to evaluate what had been done. Since many BOV members and several Trustees are attorneys, the June session provided the opportunity for attorneys to offer their perspectives on the topic. Case management is important and many expressed the need to think about it with the current generation in mind. Visitors and Trustees were delighted to hear of the success of the NJC’s Pillars of Justice – A Fund for the Future of Justice campaign. Members are instrumental to the success of the campaign since they reach out to their contacts for support. Board of Visitors vice-chair, Ann Thornton Field said, “Support for the Pillars is critical to the future of the NJC. Supporters are providing funding for new courses and to enhance existing courses. In addition, funding is helping to support an important Board of Visitors project to condense the Federal Judicial Center’s Manual for Complex Litigation, fourth edition into a useable tool to assist state judges in managing complex cases.” For more information about the Pillars of Justice Fund and for a listing of donors, click here.
