The National Judicial College was recently awarded a contribution of $100,000 for the College’s Pillars of Justice Fund – A Fund for the Future of Justice. The contribution, which was awarded by Chevron Corporation, will be paid out over a three-year period and go toward implementing specialized court strategies and advancing justice.

“Our Pillars of Justice Fund is a valuable resource for the College and will help us to develop and pilot new programs and judicial strategies,” expressed Hon. William F. Dressel, president of the NJC. “We are deeply grateful for Chevron’s help in improving justice and democracy on a nationwide scale, and especially grateful to our board member, Lydia Beebe, for coordinating this pledge.”

The NJC created the Pillars of Justice Fund primarily to establish a research, education and services fund to address crucial judicial issues that are affecting our nation’s judiciary. Important topics to be addressed through this fund include: understanding scientific expert evidence; core competencies needed by state trial judges to handle complex civil cases; and commercial litigation/business courts to name a few.

“As an NJC board member, I am keenly aware of the need for the specialized judicial training the College provides.” said Trustee Beebe, corporate secretary and chief governance officer for Chevron. “The thought-provoking education and exchange of ideas that takes place at the NJC provides participants with focused insight and knowledge of important issues facing the judiciary today.”
