NJC’s Board of Trustees – A Solid Group of Leaders
8/3/2007

Members of The National Judicial College’s Board of Trustees are important leaders for the organization. Trustees set policy, foster a climate of excellence, promote the development of innovative judicial education programs and provide leadership in achieving the NJC’s mission. There are 18 appointed members on the board who are from the legal and corporate fields as well as from the judiciary.

This year’s chair is Thomas M. Susman, of Ropes & Gray LLP in Washington, D.C. Mr. Susman has been involved with the NJC for many years and is committed to furthering the NJC’s mission. “Tom has a great vision for the College and is a terrific leader who has a broad legal background, and a clear understanding of the role of a judge through his experience clerking for Judge John Minor Wisdom on the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and by being married to a Judge on the United States Court of Federal Claims,” said Hon. William F. Dressel, president of the NJC. In addition to this year’s chair, other leaders include chair-elect, Saul Wolfe, founding member of Skoloff & Wolfe LLP, secretary, Judge Frederic B. Rodgers of Golden, Co, and treasurer, Oliver Mitchell, of the Margolis Law Firm in New Jersey.

In addition to helping the NJC with its programs, trustees also help the NJC with its fundraising efforts. As a non-profit organization, the NJC relies on funding from individuals, corporations and private foundations for support. Twenty-three percent of the NJC’s budget is from private contributions and as the NJC continues to grow, so does its need for additional support.

Trustees are involved with the NJC’s newest program, The Pillars of Justice Fund – A Fund for the Future of Justice. Support for this fund ensures that democracy and the rule of law are upheld through the dedication and work of a well-educated judiciary. Donors to the fund provide support for the Research, Education and Services Fund that will allow the NJC to address areas that impact the ability of our nation’s courts to provide quality justice. In addition, funding will provide support for the operations of the College and will build the NJC’s endowment. For more information, please contact Gretchen Alt Sawyer at (800) 25-JUDGE.
