Mental Competency–Free Multidiscipline Webcasts

In furtherance to the publication and creation of the “Mental Competency – Best Practices Model,” www.mentalcompetency.org, The National Judicial College will present a free, three-part webcast series on the model, pursuant to a grant from the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. The webcasts will be broadcast live and subsequently made available for viewing on this site.

The purpose of the “Mental Competency – Best Practices Model” is to present a body of practices deemed to be most effective and efficient for handling mental competency issues in the criminal justice and mental health systems. The Model was devised for judges, attorneys, mental health practitioners and other professionals who handle cases involving the issue of competency to proceed. Because of the collaborative nature of these practices, and the benefits to a jurisdiction from cross-discipline education, we encourage you to advise your colleagues and other stakeholders in your jurisdiction to participate, and “bring your team” to the webcasts!
