1. This historic courthouse, named for its county, was built in 1891 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
  2. The women of this county formed the only female cavalry company on either side in the Civil War.
  3. The famous Scopes Monkey Trial took place here in 1925. The bottom floor is now a museum dedicated to the trial, but the upstairs is still a functioning courthouse.
  4. Legend has it that a judge heard his own case in this courthouse in the 1950s. He found himself not guilty of a misdemeanor.
