The NJC's newly upgraded multi-media
room will enable College faculty, the Faculty Council, and other groups to keep pace with emerging legal and educational trends.

The National Judicial College (NJC) recently received a $50,000 grant from the E.L. Cord Foundation to upgrade its multi-media room, which will dramatically expand the NJC’s capacity to offer more educational options to more judges. It will also enable the College’s faculty and Faculty Council to keep pace with emerging legal and educational trends.

“We are grateful once again to the E.L. Cord Foundation for giving us an innovative edge in providing the best judicial education nationwide,” said Hon. William F. Dressel, president of the NJC.

The upgrade to a smart classroom configuration will be similar to that of the classrooms with additional videoconferencing equipment that will permit interactive meetings with four remote sites simultaneously. This technology enhancement will improve the delivery of the international program, increase the opportunities for the chief academic officer to invite outside experts to share their ideas with the academic staff, and take NJC’s distance learning division to the next level with the technology necessary to hold live remote classes.

“This exciting and state-of-the-art classroom enhancement will improve the learning experience for existing users and expand the NJC’s capacity to provide more study options to more judges,” explained President Dressel. “All of these measures support The National Judicial College’s ultimate goal of advancing justice through quality judicial education.”

Earlier phases of the NJC’s technology upgrade, which were also funded by the E.L. Cord Foundation, consisted of a newly remodeled computer lab in 2005, a new database installation, and the conversion of three classrooms, including the NJC’s E.L. Cord Amphitheater, into state-of-the-art, technology-enhanced, modern, learning environments.

The auditorium is used frequently to host national speakers and large courses.

The E.L. Cord Foundation, a longtime supporter of The National Judicial College, was established Dec. 11, 1962, by E.L. Cord, a well-known businessman, industrialist and innovator whose visions, ideas and principles were far ahead of the times. Cord had many business ventures, mainly in the manufacturing of automobiles, airplane and boat engines and electrical appliances as well as real estate. He died in 1974, and his foundation has been active in northern Nevada since that date.
