Tribal/State Jurisdiction Symposium The National Tribal Judicial Center at The National Judicial College and the Intertribal Court System of Southern California will co-present a Tribal/State Jurisdiction Symposium Sept. 19-20, 2006. Sponsored by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, the event will be held at the Pala Casino Spa Resort (near the San Diego and Orange County airports). The purpose of this symposium is to educate judges, attorneys and justice leaders in PL-280 states on complex jurisdictional issues and encourage dialog among tribal and state officials to resolve some of those issues. A limited number of rooms at the Pala Casino Spa Resort have been set aside for symposium participants at a special rate of $75/single/double. The cut-off date for reservations is Aug. 25, 2006, unless the room block is filled earlier. The Symposium, which will be preceded by the First Annual ICSSC Charity Golf Tournament at the Redhawk Golf Parkway in Temecula, CA, will include an overview of the PL-280 Jurisdiction, sessions on regulatory and civil jurisdiction, juvenile justice, Indian Child Welfare Act cases, State/Tribal Relations focusing on Cross Jurisdictional Enforcement of Orders and Intergovernmental Agreements, and Domestic Violence focusing on Cross-Jurisdictional Enforcement. The two-day symposium will be followed by a half-day Intergovernmental Agreements workshop which is by invitation only. There are
no registration or conference fees to attend the Sympsium or the Intergovernmental
