Nevada
Supreme Court to Hold Oral Arguments at the NJC Nov. 8 and 9 The Nevada Supreme Court will hold oral arguments in the courtroom at The National Judicial College on Nov. 8 and 9, starting at 9 a.m. on the first day and 10:30 a.m. on the following day. The event is open to the public. Four cases will be heard on Nov. 8 and six are scheduled for the following day. The panel will consist both days of Justice Nancy Becker, Justice James Hardesty and Justice Ron Parraguirre. The Nevada Supreme Court is the highest court in the Nevada judicial system. Each justice is elected to a six-year term, with the exception of the two new justices elected in 1998, who held two-year terms until they were reelected in the 2000 election; subsequent terms are for six years. The main constitutional function of the Supreme Court
is to review appeals from the decisions of the district courts. The Supreme
Court does not pursue fact-finding by conducting trials, but rather determines
whether legal errors were committed in the rendering of the lower court's
decision. The court can affirm, modify or set aside the decision on appeal.
The court must consider all cases filed. The case information is available online at www.coba.unr.edu/econ/supremecourt.asp.
