Sample Tribal Code of Judicial Conduct Available Online 12/21/2007
The National Tribal Judicial Center at The National Judicial College is proud to announce the release of the “Sample Tribal Code of Judicial Conduct” template available now for download on the National Tribal Judicial Center webpage. This project was sponsored by a generous grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. Evolving and well-established tribal justice systems can use this Sample Code as a tool for development as they move into the future. It is important for tribal courts to consider developing a code of judicial ethics. With the exercise of judicial power comes great responsibility which in turn requires a high level of self-assessment by judges. A well-drafted code of judicial conduct is a way of regulating the power of the court to ensure fairness and justice from the judicial body for all the people. This project is funded through a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice. Neither the U.S. Department of Justice nor any of its components operate, control, are responsible for, or necessarily endorse, this web site (including, without limitation, its content, technical infrastructure, and policies, and any services or tools provided).
