A Legacy of Learning

Created more than a half-century ago at the recommendation of a U.S. Supreme Court justice, The National Judicial College, based in Reno, NV since 1964, remains the only educational institution in the United States that teaches courtroom skills to judges of all types from all over the country, Indian Country and abroad. The categories of judges served by this nonprofit and nonpartisan institution, based in Reno, Nevada, since 1964, decide more than 95 percent of the cases in the United States.

The NJC Experience

The NJC Experience allows for interaction with colleagues that often results in lifelong friendships. The College is a safe and collaborative place where judges can discuss issues they are facing in their role. The College prides itself on the diverse group of judges that it has in its classrooms at any given time.

Teaching Facilities

The NJC’s headquarters in Reno houses an auditorium, classrooms, model courtroom, computer lab, multimedia room, judge’s resource center, discussion areas, and administrative space. All classrooms are equipped with Smart Classroom teaching technology that integrates computers, responder systems, audio/visual equipment, and sound systems. The Model Courtroom was created in partnership with ExhibitOne Corporation.

The Judicial Studies Degree provides a formal academic setting in which judges and qualifying adjudicators can integrate technical studies of the judiciary with more academic ones in an effort to provide an intellectual assessment of the role of the American judiciary.

In addition to the regular courses in the NJC course catalog, a state, tribe, military branch or other group can arrange for the NJC to present a course on almost any subject desired. The course can be presented as a stand-alone live event, delivered in the form of a webcast, or included as part of a conference, workshop, needs assessment or staff development program.
