New endowment honors President Schmucker

The College has established the Hon. Chad C. Schmucker Endowment to honor the leadership of its retiring president.

Chad Schmucker

Schmucker, whose tenure began in January 2014, is retiring at the end of April. The endowment will provide scholarships to judges taking NJC courses.

During his tenure, Schmucker expanded the NJC’s web-based programs and courses taught in cities coast to coast, allowing easier and more affordable access for judges. The College also registered record-high enrollments.

Immediately prior to becoming president, he served as state court administrator in charge of all 246 trial courts in Michigan, a role in which he worked to improve the state’s judicial system. He also spent 20 years on the bench in Jackson County, Michigan, as a Circuit Court judge.

He graduated from the University of Michigan and from Wayne State University Law School.
