NJC unveils bust of late Nevada state Senator William J. Raggio

RENO, Nev. (March 16, 2017) – The National Judicial College and Mrs. Dale Raggio unveiled a bust of late Nevada state Senator William J. Raggio on Wednesday at the College. The bronze sculpture will remain in the NJC’s lobby, preserving Raggio’s legacy and support of the NJC.

The event featured short speeches from NJC President Chad Schmucker and Dale Raggio, who donated the bust to the NJC in honor of her husband’s support of the College.

Senator Raggio represented the 3rd District (Washoe County) in the Nevada Senate in from 1972 until his retirement in 2011, making him the longest-serving member in the history of the state Senate. His leadership helped bring the NJC to Reno from Colorado in 1964, and he played a significant role in securing financial support for the College during his long tenure in office.

Senator Raggio passed away in 2012. Mrs. Raggio launched The Senator William J. Raggio Endowment at the NJC in 2015 to provide scholarships and program support for Nevada judges.
