NJC alumnus and faculty member Gregory D. Smith was named 2017 Outstanding Municipal Court Judge by the Tennessee Municipal Judges Conference. Smith will be presented the annual honor at a conference in August.
Smith has served the Pleasant View Municipal Court since 1997. He serves tribal jurisdictions as a justice for both the Pawnee Nation Supreme Court in Oklahoma and the Bishop Paiute Court of Appeals in California. As a part-time municipal court judge, he also practices law at his own firm in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Smith first attended the College in 2008 and has completed 20 classes. He has received the NJC’s Special Court Trial Skills certificate and Tribal Judicial Skills certificate. He joined the faculty last year, instructing the web-based Fundamentals of Evidence course.
