Two General Jurisdiction alumni are immediately succeeding their fathers on the bench.
Hon. Suzanne de Mahy followed in her father’s footsteps this year when she succeeded her father, Paul de Mahy, on the bench. When dad retired, she ran unopposed for his seat on the 16th Judicial District Court in New Iberia, Louisiana. This past month she followed in his footsteps again when she took a course at the National Judicial College.
Hon. William H. Burris was also a member of our most recent General Jurisdiction course. Last year he ran for the seat of his retiring father, William J. Burris, in the 22nd Judicial District Court in Louisiana. He will serve the remainder of his father’s term, which is set to end in 2020. The elder Burris is also an alumnus of the College many times over.
