Learning objectives are the answer to this dilemma. Most instructors are too optimistic about what they can accomplish in the time that they have available. For an hour of instruction, most instructors will only be able to accomplish one to three learning objectives. Learning objectives should be learner-centered, motivational, clear, and measurable. That is, an instructor should be able to measure whether the participant has learned the concepts.
