Network
In 1993, Dividing the Waters began as a gathering of judicial officers involved in the large western states water rights adjudications to discuss common challenges. Eventually the gathering developed into a recurring and more structured conference, held in different major watersheds to address particular challenges in water litigation. Many of the participants returned from year to year, developing lasting professional relationships that allowed for dialogue outside of the conferences. Presiding over water cases can be a lonely task, and judicial officers who join the network find it a supportive and valuable resource, which has expanded to include quarterly webinars, and for judicial officers in states that contribute to their development, on-line/on demand courses. Attorneys and administrators working in water law are now invited to subscribe to the monthly Network Note, which summarizes important water law developments and profiles people working in this area.
